FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS IN GRADES 2-5

Berkshire Family YMCA’s BRIGHT FUTURES SUMMER LITERACY CAMP couples literacy education with enrichment activities and field trips as physical activity is known to increase brain power and concentration, particularly for reading. Enrichment activities include physical fitness, art/music, character development, nutrition education and educational field trips. For example, weekly themes tie learning and activities together and may include science and community heroes with field trips to Pleasant Valley and the Fire Station.

  • Who: Below Grade Level readers who will be entering grades 2-5 in the Fall 2018 referred by Pittsfield Public Schools.
  • When: July 9 – August 17, 2018 - 6 weeks, 5 days/week, 7 hours/day, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
  • Daily Agenda: Within the instructional day, the schedule is as follows: 9-9:15 a.m.: Morning Meeting with Character Development; 9:15-10:45 a.m.: 2 Literacy Blocks including transition time; 10:45-11 a.m.: Snack; 11-12:00 p.m.: 2 Literacy Blocks including transition time; 12-1:00 p.m.: Walk to lunch and eat lunch; 1-4 p.m.: Enrichment Activities include Physical Fitness, Art/Music, Nutrition Education, and more. On Fridays, the students go on educational field trips. Note: Lunch is provided.
  • Cost: $150 total for 6 weeks of camp plus an additional fee for before or after school care. Financial assistance available to those who are income eligible.
